For anyone who is a working parent, or even if you aren’t working but are still a parent, we all understand the difficulty of managing time with our family with our other responsibilities. This is particularly true when it comes to a working mother or father working a regular job, working from home or having to work on a fly in fly out basis or any other type of work.
With our family, we have my husband who works away one week one, then one off. Then there is myself a home business owner. Both of us struggle to keep a happy medium between our work and having quality time with each other and our four young children.
Sometimes it’s really a matter of making ourselves stop whatever we are doing and just putting it aside for a while to go and do something that our kids really enjoy doing like going for a picnic or to the zoo, whatever it is that gets us out of our working environment. Despite our urges to return back to our project at the time and just keep going and going with it, we do really get a great benefit out of going out as a family and enjoying some leisure time.
Advice for anyone who is in a situation anything like this or anything not like this, but still has a struggle making that balance. Make sure you assign time to only spend with your family during the week or on weekends doing something with them that is just about them. Save work for the week days if possible and try not to work on weekends when you can be spending time with your family and just having a bit of leisure time.
Whatever your situation, don’t forget to keep business and family on two different ends of the stick and just try to keep both ends of that stick even to each other if possible, so that one does not effect the other. I know it’s really easy to just say that, but it really doesn’t take much more that a bit of planning and thought to keep both sides happy and humming along nicely to have the happy life that you desire.
